Thirty of so people inside and VIP lounge 01 didn’t feel crowded, just noisy, with a rather intense smell of wine and perfume that got stronger by the minute.

Shen Ming probably didn’t like this kind of scene very much. He’d stretched out his pair of long legs and was half-lying on the sofa to smoke. He didn’t play like Qin Lei and the rest, but he seemed used to this kind of scene as he didn’t show any discomfort. Occasionally, when someone would come by to say hello and toast him respectfully, he arrogantly bowed and watched the other party drink while he didn’t even touch his glass. Strangely enough, no one found it wrong.

Jiang Nian sat next to him and, when she became tired, habitually leaned on his shoulders. At this movement, she heard a lot of gasping sounds, as if everyone in the room was shocked. In particular, Yang Huiling, who had been laughing and smiling with friends, looked at her a lot less calmly compared to before in the restaurant.

Yang Huiling was really unhappy. Shen Ming was a proud and arrogant man. When did he let women lean on him? The woman wasn’t even paying attention as she treated Shen Ming as an ordinary man!

Besides, Jiang Nian was too ordinary. She had no outstanding characteristics except that face.  Her family background was even more underwhelming. Where was she worth of Shen Ming? How could Shen Ming fancy that type of Jiang Nian?

Even to the point of refusing to marry her family.

Was there a place where shew as worse than Jiang Nian? Of course not!

Although Yang Huiling was dissatisfied with Jiang Nian, she did not really worry about Jiang Nian; it was impossible for her to enter the Shen family, after all.

Jiang Nian paid no attention to the crowd, brushing the hatred value of the people around by playing with Shen Ming’s palms with interest. Shen Ming’s hands were particularly good-looking: his bones were well shaped, his fingers were slender with slight calluses, and his fingernails were also clean. She had just flipped his hands over palm up when he impatiently grabbed the small hand holding his.

“Don’t make trouble.”

Jiang Nian smiled while leaning on his shoulder, especially obedient.

“Hee hee.”

Yang Huiling had just comforted herself with the thought that Jiang Nian was just a jumping clown. Even so, she couldn’t help but secretly grit her teeth when she saw this scene. She grabbed a glass of wine and took a sip while the younger sisters next to her marveled aloud at Jiang Nian’s abilities. Not only was she able to win over Shen Ming, the flower of Gao Ling1, she was still so brazen! They were just like an ordinary little couple- it seemed Shen Ming really had strong feelings for Jiang Nian.

“I heard he almost made trouble with Grandfather Shen for her too. Their feelings really aren’t ordinary…”

Yang Huiling coughed a few times, and, when the several people beside her shut up, coldly said, “are Shen Ming’s affairs something you can casually discuss?”

Their family backgrounds weren’t as strong as Shen or Yang so naturally they had no right to speak. Several of them exchanged glances and said, “Sister Huiling, you see that Jiang Nian is just wrapped around Shen, like a seductress!2

“Yes, how can she deserve Shen Ming?”

Someone suggested, “Well, why don’t we call Jiang Nian over to play?”

Of course, this “play” had another meaning. Yang Huiling’s interest was piqued as she drank her wine glass and said nothing. Of course, she didn’t object.

She claimed to be unwilling to take Jiang Nian seriously enough to deal with her directly, but it didn’t mean she would prevent others from doing so.

Over in the corner, Jiang Nian was overwhelmed with emotion as she ran through several mock trials of her jealous outburst in her head. She was so absorbed in her thoughts that even Shen Ming beside her felt it, glancing over.

“What are you thinking about that makes you so happy?”

Jiang Nian smiled and said, “I’m very happy to be with you.”

Shen Ming raised an eyebrow and smiled, and rubbed his palm gently on the back of her soft hand.

“I’ll send you back to the dormitory before ten o’clock.”

“…So early?”

Shen Ming looked at her a little meaningfully, asking, “Don’t want to go back?”

“…I do.”

“Ok.”

Bringing her current trial to an end in her mind, Jiang Nian realized she couldn’t stay with Shen Ming all the time- shouldn’t she give others a chance, too?!

She hurriedly sought a chance to go to the bathroom and deliberately delay for some time, at least until Yang Huiling was able to get along with Shen Ming alone for a while. She’d have a ready made excuse if someone called her to “play”.

Sure enough as soon as she went out, she was approached by a few beautiful women who greeted her with gentle and harmless smiles.

“Nian, we’ve known of you for a long time, but didn’t expect to finally meet today. You’re even more beautiful than the rumors!”

“Yeah, and your relationship with Shen Boss looks so good. How did you meet each other?”

Several women clustered in front of her, chatting and acting familiarly, discussing going shopping for beauty products, etc. Jiang Nian smiled with a naive expression but when she, out of the corner of her eye, saw a woman deliberately reaching a foot out and trying to stumble her, she was angry. They were going to trip her at the toilet door?

These women are so good.

As the heroine, how could she fall in front of the toilet? It was so smelly and dirty, a disgrace to her as the female lead…

Since she couldn’t cooperate with the foot, she could only step on it, reminding the woman to choose the right place next time. The other party suddenly screamed, moved back a few steps, and nearly fell down. The several other women confusedly shouted, “What’s wrong with Meimei? Are you okay?”

Meimei’s eyes were red and she looked at Jiang Nian standing with an innocent look, shook her head, and said, “I’m fine…”

This person is quite smart.

After that, the road was a bit too peaceful. Jiang Nian waited and waited and didn’t wait for a foot. She was a little annoyed. Did she step too hard and scared them away?

Sure enough, the heroine should only be weak a bullied; beauty or ugliness was irrelevant!

Jiang Nian pondered deeply. Upon returning to the private room, she saw Yang Huiling sitting beside Shen Ming and talking. The room was too noisy, and she could not hear what they were talking about, but Yang Huiling didn’t seem to pay attention to her appearing, still smiling softly next to Shen Ming.

Jiang Nian walked quickly. Shen Ming saw her, his eyes staring at her so aggressively that it couldn’t be ignored even in the dim lighting. His sense of existence was too strong-even sitting there silently he still drew attention.

Perhaps it was delayed retribution for stepping on someone’s foot earlier but, can someone tell her how, even though no one stretched out their feet, Jiang Nian’s foot suddenly cramped and she tilted into fall? At that very moment, Shen Ming had already strode over, stretched his long arms out to wrap around her and pulling her into his chest.

The world seemed to be quiet.

Jiang Nian was lying in the man’s arms, smelling his faint cologne scent, and couldn’t help feeling a little uncomfortable. Why was everything incompatible with her script???

She was so annoyed she didn’t want to talk. Shen Ming hugged her to the sofa and sat her down.

“What’s wrong with your feet?”

Qin Lei came over to make fun, “little sis Nian is coquettish3 with Boss Shen?”

Yang Huiling clenched her hand into a fist and lowered her eyes to hand their darkness. She clearly remember that, when Jiang Nian started to fall, Shen Ming’s face tensed up a moment.

Jiang Nian was very frustrated.

“…Cramps.”

Shen Ming grinned slightly, rubbing her head and saying, “Stupid, sit still.”

…She really didn’t want this.

Of course, Jiang Nian’s anxiety didn’t last long as, just when they were about to leave, Yang Huiling couldn’t help but reveal Shen Ming she had something to say to him alone. Naturally, Jiang Nian let them go quickly as she obediently waited for them in place. Of course, as soon as they left, she followed.

Yang Huiling really feels a bit suffocated. She likes Shen Ming and knows that Jiang Nian was just entertainment for him. But, with him treating Jiang Nian like this, can she be willing?

They reached the window at the end of the corridor, where the cool night breeze blew. Shen Ming lit a cigarette and said lightly, “Miss Yang, I have told you before that my elders’ intentions are not mine. I hope you don’t misunderstand.”

Yang Huiling was quiet for a while, and ignoring Shen Ming’s impatience, said with a smile, “I understand, I saw clearly today. But you must also realize that you and she are impossible.”

Shen Ming frowned.

“Miss Yang, this is my personal matter, and it has nothing to do with you. Please worry about yourself.”

Yang Huiling felt a little pain in her heart, and Shen Ming pressed his cigarette against the window.

“Since the words have been said, I’ll go first. I hope you won’t come to me for such things in the future.”

He walked a few steps away while Yang Huiling, heart aching, felt more and more unwilling to lose to a woman who was inferior to her. She finally couldn’t hold back and ran up behind Shen Ming to hug him, “Shen Ming, I am sincere to you.”
“Really!”

She emphasized her sincerity.

Shen Ming frowned, and he clutched Yang Huiling’s hand wrapped tightly around his waist. When he looked up again, he saw Jiang Nian standing in front of him.

He didn’t know when she appeared.

“What are you doing?!”

Footnotes

1. Someone high up, cold, reserved, and unreachable. Meant to be seen but not touched. A more literal translation would be ‘flower on a high mountain’. ^
2. This word pretty much denotes a woman who purposefully attracts men’s attentions and can take on some pretty…insulting connotations based on the context. ‘Succubus’ felt a bit too strong so I chose seductress, but the person may have wanted to be as insulting as possible. ^
3. Um…sort of shy teasing/playfulness? ^
